Brief

A new woodland garden and shaded meadow to surround the pavilion. In this glade-like opening a new pavilion has been designed by architects Tonkin Liu. Its double domes will hold a library and a dance studio. Inspired by the repeating forms of nature, the shell-like structure sits on an earth mound.

Place

A private estate in St Georges Hill, Surrey. The mansion commands an elevated hill top position, its garden flowing down the hillside and cascading into lush woodland and swaths of dense Rhododendron.

Design

A roof meadow will be planted on top and descend to a foldable terrace, which becomes a sheet of water when it rains and over flow into the grotto below. There is a sense of a Victorian garden having been left to grow wild.
